Berlin Highway Tunnels Modernize with CITILOG + AXIS Technology

In a landmark decision, Die Autobahn GmbH the German federal highway authority, has selected CITILOG and AXIS for the comprehensive upgrade of Berlin’s inner-city highway tunnel video technology systems. This extensive project, initiated through a 2021 public tender, encompasses the modernisation of video incident management hardware and software across Berlin’s highway network, including the A100, A111, and A113, as well as eight tunnels, notably the 1,700-meter-long Britz Tunnel and the 1,000-meter-long Airport Tegel Tunnel. Berlin, appointed as the general contractor, emphasises the incorporation of cutting-edge Automatic Incident Detection (AID) technology featuring Applied Deep Learning. This advanced technology promises to dramatically reduce false alarms and enhance incident detection accuracy, identifying various scenarios like stopped vehicles, wrong-way drivers, congestion, pedestrians, debris, and fires.

For this critical endeavour, SIEMENS Berlin once again partners with AXIS and CITILOG, leveraging their long-standing, successful collaboration. The trio has meticulously developed a tailored solution encompassing hardware, software, installation, and maintenance. This includes 132 advanced AXIS cameras integrated with the industry-leading AID/ADL software, ensuring a reliable operation for a minimum of ten years.
