Overview of MediaTunnel
MediaTunnel is a video-based Automatic Incident Detection (AID) System for road tunnels. It provides Automatic Incident Detection and Traffic Data in real time in tunnels, through video image processing.With dramatic accidents in tunnels increasing over the last few years, safety in tunnels has become more and more important to save lives and reduce infrastructure damage and loss.

MediaTunnel allows fast automatic real time incident detection with an alarm and on-screen highlighting (audible and visual) of incidents within a few seconds after an incident occurs. Thus, it limits the risks of secondary accidents and enables proactive responses to incidents to minimize human loss and infrastructure damage. Limiting the risk of secondary accidents is enabled by allowing for warnings to be issued to upcoming drivers. Among the various functionalities, MediaTunnel enables the detection of stopped vehicles in fluid traffic and stopped vehicles in congested traffic. Citilog’s product goes even further, allowing monitoring that detects:

MediaTunnel has been deployed all over the world with realizations in improved Tunnel safety everywhere. It provides an automatic real time detection of traffic incidents in Tunnels with a modular and a flexible system, even in congestion situation.
MediaTunnel is present in the USA. It was chosen by the Maryland Transportation Authority which operates the two Baltimore tunnels: Baltimore Harbor and Fort McHenry. Citilog’s MediaTunnel is in place among 100 cameras to improve the safety of drivers, pedestrians and all users.
MediaTunnel is also largely installed in Asia, such as in China with the Fuxing Tunnel in Shanghai, where 88 cameras are installed in the first double-deck tunnel in the world featuring six lanes of traffic.
In Europe, achievements like MediaTunnel’s coverage of the Madrid Ring Road in Spain, the A86 in France and the Mont-Blanc represent the best state-of-the-art ever in Tunnel Safety.
