MediaCity
Overview of MediaCity
MediaCity is a video-based detection solution that provides real-time information to identify the presence of vehicles at signal-controlled intersections, through Video Image Processing.
The MediaCity software is compatible with Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), Analog or IP cameras and works under every condition (lighting variations, weather changes or different traffic condition).
Most traffic management systems today rely on magnetic loop detectors to identify the traffic demand at intersections (stop bars). In addition to loop emulation functionalities to directly replace the magnetic loops, MediaCity opens-up the range of traffic information available at the intersection. This includes traffic management applications that provide information such as average waiting time, queue length, incidents (such as at the center of the intersection), density, etc.
Solutions
MediaCity was created to work under any condition. It provides a lot of functionalities to dramatically improve safety and reduce congestion at intersections:
- Presence detection feature provides customizable data to traffic controllers about the presence or absence of a vehicle within a specified zone. It detects both moving and stopped vehicles.
- Directional sensitive presence detection to discriminate vehicle detections based on the travelling direction of a vehicle through the detection zone
- Stopped vehicle on a specific lane or in the center of the intersection
- Actual queue length for vehicle stopped at the stop bar
- Average vehicle waiting time at the stop bar
- Pedestrian detection, triggered when a movement by pedestrians is detected within a detection zone
MediaCity provides several integration and use advantages:
- The detection zone can be easily defined by the customer directly on the screen
- It allows the use of non parallelepipedic zones to closely match the roadway configuration
- Each zone can be fine tuned for delay or extension
- Detection can be linked to the status of the current or specified traffic light sent by the controller in order to lock calls. Thus, it means the possibility to:
- Keep the vehicle detection triggered until the light turns green
-
Keep the pedestrian detection triggered until the pedestrian light turns red.
Benefits
MediaCity provides four main benefits: Mobility, Road Safety, Return on Investment and Greenhouse Gas Reduction.
Mobility:
MediaCity provides tools for real-time traffic management under all types of conditions (day, night, rain or sun), including under heavy traffic and congestion. It can also integrate bus and tramway priority by feeding traffic controllers with real time data to adjust traffic lights accordingly.
Road Safety:
It improves safety at the center of an intersection through effective anti-gridlock capabilities.
Return on Investments:
With MediaCity, city traffic operations management is empowered with the opportunity to greatly improve the efficiency of already installed Traffic Light management equipment as well as optimizing the use of Road Infrastructure.
Above ground detection technology has today become a standard solution to replace in ground inductive loops. MediaCity significantly lowers the cost of inductive loops installation and maintenance. It greatly improves infrastructure surveillance solutions and covers data collection needs for planning. Essentially, MediaCity's monitoring for incidents and intrusions help improve mobility, security and safety across roadways, bridges and tunnels.
Greenhouse Gas Reduction:
MediaCity enables the reduction of congestion and thus, has a direct positive impact on Greenhouse Gas reduction. By providing efficient Traffic management, MediaCity can optimize traffic flow and reduce waiting time up to 30 percent, thus also reducing urban congestion, lost time and pollutant emissions. The urban impact in terms of carbon dioxide reduction can be monetized in the most advanced legislation around the world to enhance a City's financing.
Sample Projects
MediaCity has been deployed all over the world with a proven track record. In 2007, MediaCity was implemented in China for the Hangzhou Police Bureau. With 120 cameras, MediaCity improves the safety of drivers and pedestrians in this busy metro area.
