CEO's MESSAGE:

Although snow has long started to cover the Moscow landscape, Russia is far from hibernating. On the contrary and particularly in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems –not unlike another huge country that shall remain unnamed but is currently Citilog’s largest market- Russia is quickly getting up to speed.

This is one of the reasons why the first World Ministerial Conference on road safety organized by the United Nations Organization was held at the World Trade Center in Moscow in December 2009. Hosted by the Russian government and its ministry of transportation, the conference gathered Ministers of Transportation as well as Ministers of Health from around the world.

All countries represented gauged their respective progress in the area of road safety, comparing the statistics of fatalities and injuries and comparing methods. France has an interesting track record and a collection of very successful experimentations and large scale deployments to which Citilog has widely contributed through its technology and its solutions. This is the reason why Citilog was invited by the French Minister for transport, Mr. Dominique Bussereau to join him, his collaborators and the services of the French embassy in Moscow.

Aside from the obvious geo-political impact of these meetings, the involvement of Citilog is a tribute to its technological know-how and worldwide experience in the field of road safety and security as well as intelligent traffic management.

I have no doubt that a great country like Russia will move towards modern road infrastructures in the years to come, including in the domain of ITS and intelligent video surveillance such as supplied by Citilog. We will strive to develop partnerships and developments in Russia to this end.

With our legacy solutions as well as our new range of XCam products, Citilog has the cutting edge technology needed not only for Safety and Security of our roads but also for the increasingly popular “managed lanes” solutions and a modern management of traffic in our cities.

All my thanks and gratitude for the organization of this mission go to the French Ministry of transportation, the French embassy in Moscow but also to RATP international for their kind introduction to the Moscow subway that will no doubt bear fruits in the near future.

C уважением!

Christian Girardeau, CEO, Citilog

NEWS & EVENTS

Visit of Moscow subway - Russia

On November 21st, an official visit of the Moscow subway was organized for the official delegation of the French Minister for Transportation, Mr. Dominique Bussereau and a number of French companies including RATP, CITILOG, SYSTRA, SNCF, ADPI, ALTOM, and GEISMAR. After a visit of the subway and its amazing stations –giving the impression of walking a museum- the president of the Moscow subway, Mr. Dimitri Gaev welcomed the delegation and gave an overall presentation of the subway system.

With 298 kilometers of subway, 280 stations and 9 million daily passengers, the Moscow subway is one of the world’s largest public transportation agencies worldwide. The 5,000 video surveillance cameras deployed across the infrastructures acknowledge that safety and security are serious considerations.

We hope this visit will put Citilog in a position to help the Moscow subway automate and enhance its security using our MediaIntruder product.

Managed Motorways conference
Managed Motorways is being delivered as part of the UK government’s £9 billion commitment to improve the national road network. To that end, policy makers, contractors and consultants are gearing up to work collaboratively on designing, constructing, commissioning and operating the numerous managed motorways projects. The conference featured presentations of Managed Lanes projects from UK, Netherlands, Germany, France and USA. Citilog shared its experience of the A4/A86 managed hard shoulder project. Automatic Incident Detection is a key component of such schemes and generated a lot of interest.

All over the world, Managed Motorways are being deployed in order to address congestion in a cost effective manner.

State visit in China with the French Prime Minister, Mr. François Fillon Dec 20-22, 2010
As a member of the France-China committee of the MEDEF International, Citilog was invited to join the French Prime Minister, Mr. François Fillon on his official trip to China along such prestigious companies as TOTAL, SCHNEIDER or CITELUM among others.

During this visit, several important contracts were signed between French and Chinese companies with the support of their respective governments. Citilog was able to make progress on large scale project for the deployment of its XCam technology in several Cities in China.

We were able to meet with Chinese authorities and in particular the minister of Commerce Mr. Chen Deming in order to discuss these important projects.

FEATURED PRODUCT ADVANTAGE

XCam-ng™
Citilog’s XCam-ng™ is a real-time video-sensor enclosed in a rugged housing for advanced vehicle detection at intersections and on ramps. Using wide-area video image processing, the XCam-ng™ offers traffic data and functions that no other sensor can supply, such as real-time queue length measurement and anti-gridlock detection. Like other above-ground sensors (radar, video) the XCam-ng™ eliminates constraints imposed by embedded loops and communicates with any traffic controller.

However, the XCam-ng™ sensor has 2 very unique features that separate it from all other intersection sensors. Using advanced image processing algorithms based on vehicle tracking, rather than traditional trip-wire based algorithms; the XCam-ng™ sensor can measure real time queue length on each traffic lane of the intersection for an accurate measurement of demand. Numerous macro-control algorithms for intersections require accurate queue length and traditionally have had to rely on measurements derived from presence and advance loops, a model that fails to provide accurate data under heavy traffic. The XCam-ng™ can provide a queue data that is accurate under all circumstances and with one unique sensor for several lanes of traffic. Tracking-based algorithms also uniquely allow accurately detecting and distinguishing the presence of stopped and moving vehicles on wide-areas in the field of view of the sensor.

Focusing the XCam-ng™ sensor on the center of the intersection and adequately defining detection zones will allow detecting pre-gridlock situations.

SOLUTIONS FOR YOU

Anti-gridlock @ intersections
Cities worldwide are plagued by traffic congestion and its numerous negative effects: Traffic delays, inability to accurately forecast travel time, wasted fuel, increases air pollution and carbon dioxide emissions. As a result, major cities worldwide have a triple goal of reducing congestion levels, increasing the reliability of travel time information and, a reduction of Greenhouse gas emissions. In large cities, elaborate traffic control systems (local or centralized) traditionally use a variety of traffic sensors to optimize traffic lights cycles for traffic fluidity.

Of primary importance, there has been no solution to monitor the center of intersections to prevent grid-locking. This is the traffic nightmare of every city (several cities enforce anti-gridlocking of intersections with “do no block the box” policies such as New York City, Los Angeles, etc.). XCam-ng™ provides pre gridlock detection to traffic control systems and operators. With it, control strategies can be implemented to optimize traffic flow and reduce motorist waiting time up to 30 percent. This leads to a reduction in urban congestion, lost time and pollutant emissions. Greenhouse gas emissions reduction can be between 4% and 20%. XCam-ng™ pre-gridlock detection function also enables to grant priority to public transportation over other vehicles provided that the intersection is not gridlocked.

By optimizing fluidity of car and public transportation traffic at intersections, the XCam-ng™ video sensor positively contributes to global efforts for sustainable development. It significantly aids in reducing congestion and gas and pollutant emissions.
